Vardegra is a brand name for vardenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE) inhibitor used in the treatment of ED. This inhibitor stops phosphodiesterase from cramping the arteries and this aids the flow of blood through the blood vessels during sexual stimulation. Vardegra relaxes the muscles found in the walls of the blood vessels in the penis and aids the flow of blood to the organ.

When a male is aroused, signals sent from the brain causes the release of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). It is this substance that controls the constriction and distention of blood vessels that take blood in and out of the penis causing an erection and flaccidity respectively.

Phosphodiesterase-5, another enzyme, destroys cGMP and when this happens, the blood vessels return to their normal size, hereby ending the erection. Vardenafil, which is the PDE5 inhibitor, prevents the destruction of cGMP thus prolonging erection leading to an enjoyable sexual experience.

HOW SHOULD YOU TAKE VARDEGRA?

Man takes tabletVardegra is taken 25 minutes to 1 hour prior to sexual activity, and its effect can last up to five hours.

A maximum of one tablet should be used per day i.e every 24 hours. The maximum dosage to be consumed in a day should not exceed 20 mg.

The drug will not work unless the man is sexually stimulated therefore a bit of foreplay is essential.

You can use Vardegra with or without food but it is advisable to not consume alcohol when using the drug as it slows down its action and also increases the possibility of dangerous side effects.

Vardegra is not to be used by individuals under 18 years of age.

Also, if there is a case of overdose, the patient should contact a healthcare professional immediately.

VARIOUS INTERACTIONS OF THE DRUG

Below is a list of medications that shouldn’t be used in conjunction with Vardegra to prevent adverse effects.

Vardegra may react with nitrate drugs (for example, nitroglycerin). These drugs are often used in treating pains around the chest area and heart problems, so men looking to take Vardegra are advised to consult with their doctor first. Using these types of drugs alongside Vardegra can cause fainting or dizziness.

Avoid the use of vardenafil with recreational drugs containing butyl nitrate or amyl. For patients treating high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate, and are using drugs like Doxazosin and Tamsulosin, vardenafil may cause a drop in blood pressure to a minimal level. This can lead to dizziness or fainting. Your doctor may begin treatment with a lower dose of vardenafil to minimize this risk.

Anti-HIV drugsOther medications that can interact with generic Vardegra include:

macrolide antibiotics (for example, Clarithromycin, Erythromycin);
antifungals (such as Ketoconazole, Itraconazole);
HIV drugs (for example, Ritonavir, Indinavir);
hepatitis C virus protease inhibitors (such as Telaprevir, Boceprevir), Rifampin, among others.

The above-listed drugs can influence the way vardenafil is removed from the body and this can affect the functionality of the medication. Hence, they should be avoided.
